As it becomes harder and harder to find candidates, we start to cast the nets wider and wider. We try to talk to all people with all things all of the time and consequently we fail to engage with anybody.

So, starting today, I want you to look at your current jobs with a fresh pair of eyes and to think about “who are the 20% of people out there who I believe I should be engaging with” … and talk specifically to them.

If you get 200 people looking at your advert on Linkedin and you get 20 responses that is pretty typical of what I am seeing currently in the market - 8-10% response rate. These people would have applied no matter what you had written.

We need to speak to the people that require a little more demonstration, that you understand what it’s like to be them. The people who will take you to 15%, 20%, even 25%.

Yes there may be pressure in terms of candidate, shortages and skills in sectors, but at a micro level, typically, you need one person. 

Find your personal power to find that one person - how will you communicate you message to a smaller group of individuals, start to become the definition of pistachio in a world full of vanilla, and I promise you it’ll make all the difference.

    There are three things that I believe contribute t There are three things that I believe contribute to successfully filling a job in today’s marketplace. 

1. Is the candidate right for the job?

2. Is the job right for the candidate?

Both of these two components contribute 40% - 20% for is the candidate right for the job and 20% is the job right for the candidate. 

So where does the other 60% come from I hear you ask?

3. This 60% comes from how much you are at power with what you’re doing with the job. 

Not the power of client control.
Not the power of candidate control.
Not even the power of job qualification.

Are you personally at power with yourself on the jobs that you are working?

Or, do you allow the demons in your head to start to whisper things to you that hold you back and reduce your potential to take massive action?

“Hey don’t worry, it’s hard to find candidates. So try hard today but if you don’t find anyone, there’s always tomorrow.”

This will hold you back in terms of energy and effort. Already you ego is telling you “be prepared to not find anyone”.

If that little voice in your head is saying …

“Dude, this job isn’t paying as much as you think it should” - it’s going to taint the conversation that you have with people.

Or, maybe this is another job for “insert job title” and you’ve already been around the block two, or maybe even three times.

✅ You've scoured the earth
✅ You’ve done Linkedin
✅ You’ve done the job boards
There is no where else to look 😱

All of these things strip you of your power. They strip you of your focus.

The mistake that people make is it’s their passion and enthusiasm that helps them to fill roles.
